As For Me and My House – Joshua

Joshua 24:14-21

Introduction

We live in a world filled with double standards, pretenders, and people who do not care about God at all. Serving the Lord is great, and wonderful. And the reason why our society is filled with many evil things is as a result of bad leadership in the home. 
When it comes to home, serving the Lord should not be optional, but a collective effort, and that is exactly what keeps the family going in the right direction.

In this passage, we see a man making a solid and firm decision for the Lord.
Joshua was speaking as the prophet of the Lord for the first time in Chapter 24
verse 2.

Verse 14
Joshua explains the Attitude in our service to the Lord.
There is something unique about serving the Lord in sincerity and in truth. You need to do what you are doing for the Lord for the right reason. God desires that we serve him in sincerity, and not with eyes service.

Many are serving the Lord because of what they will get from it.

Do not worship the Lord with a double heart. It is not possible to serve two masters. It is either you serve the Lord with all your heart or you do not serve him at all.

Ephesians 6:24  Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. To the Ephesians written from Rome, by Tychicus. 

Put away the strange gods, there are little gods many people are placing before them today. The little gods of money, business, and friends are what so many people have put before the Lord, and this is the reason why we are losing our children to the world because we are living like the world.

A man took an Unshakeable stand for the Lord- vs 15
We will have to come to the point in our Christian life where we will have to make a choice, is it God or the world? You can halt between two opinions if you Jehovah be the God, serve Him.

1Kings 18:21  And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 

Many Christians today are not bringing glory to the Lord because they have not made that decision, they do not have a fixed mind. There is a great cause for you to choose the Lord. It pays to serve the Lord than the gods. The Lord brings fulfillment to life, but the world brings a lack of contentment to life.

God said about Abraham’s spiritual life
Genesis 18:19
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. 

Joshua
– He realized that what his family does matter because God is going to hold him responsible and accountable for it.

– He realized that If he does not take a lead, he is playing with the future generation of his family.
Does he care about what others do? Yes, but he comes to the point that as a leader a change must begin with me.

Christians Response to Biblical Instruction
Listen to me, I care about you, I love you, but when it comes to serving the Lord, I care about what my family does, I want you to come to church, live for God, and serve God. But I have to lead by example.

When to choose? Today
It is today you need to stand up for your family, don’t waste time about it. The time for choosing is now. It is not something you do later, if you want to serve the Lord, do it now. Time is very short, and your life is very limited here on earth, no guarantees that you will live to see another day. Too many have wasted too much time already in rough lifestyles, disobedience to God, and evil deeds. He deserves that we serve him today, and in eternity, what will matter at the judgment seat of Christ is your service for the Lord. Do you choose to serve him today?

LOOKING FOR A PERFECT CHURCH?

What to choose? I choose to serve the Lord.
Not the world
Not the flesh
Not the Devil, but the Lord.

Galatians 5:13  For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 

A Man Set an Example for Others

People set a godly example, and people follow. If you don’t set a good example, people will not follow you.

Many fathers set a bad example for their kids, and that is what their kids are doing, and that is exactly what their kids will pass to the next generation.

Daily Bible Plan

If you don’t serve the Lord, your children will not serve the Lord. If you are living a hypocritical life at home and pretending to be real at church, your children will not be encouraged to serve the Lord by your attitude.
