Free Grace vs Lordship Salvation: What You Need to Know

Christian Faith, Doctrine, False Teacher Exposed By Feb 24, 2023 2 Comments

Introduction

In this blog post, I will be talking about what you need to know about free grace vs. Lordship salvation.

Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

There are two camps and two views: we have those who hold strongly to free grace, and on the other hand, those who believe in the Lordship salvation. So, what are the differences between these teachings?

Praying by the Blood of Jesus: 4 Powerful Things You Need to Know

What is Free Grace Theology?

The free grace theology is breaking down into this:

What Is Free Grace Theology?

Free Grace theology is the view that:

everlasting life is a free gift that cannot be lost, received by faith alone in Christ alone, apart from works of any kind;

assurance of our eternal destiny is based solely on believing Jesus’ promise to the believer, and not on looking to our works, experiences, or behavior;

believers are accountable for our actions before God and will be judged at the Bema to determine our eternal rewards, but not our eternal destinies.

What is Lordship Salvation?

Lordship Salvation places much emphasis on men’s works and attitudes other than Christ, and also put a cart before the horse.

Lordship salvation is the false doctrine that a sinner MUST forsake a sinful lifestyle to be saved. In sharp contrast, the Bible, God’s Word, teaches that a sinner’s faith in Christ alone is sufficient for salvation.

And also, when it comes to salvation, Lordship teachers believe and teach that a sinner must be willing to repent of all his sins and commit himself never to return to them before he can be saved.

In the Book of Acts, when the Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas what to do to be saved, here is the Biblical response:

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

And, we have many false teachers like Paul Washer and John MacArthur are the promoters of this strange doctrine, and these are the statements from them:

A popular website that endorses Lordship Salvation states the following heresy…

If Jesus Christ is not the Lord and Master of your life, He is NOT your Saviour. ALL opponents of this doctrine DENY the Lord Jesus Christ and turn the grace of God into lasciviousness by saying saved people may live just like the world. Many of today’s “soulwinner’s” believe, and preach, that submitting to Jesus as Lord is optional. They say Jesus will be your Saviour while Satan is your Lord. That is not what the Bible says. Only the devil would want you to believe that. The blood of Jesus is so POWERFUL that it will give you a new mind. Read Romans with clear eyeballs and see for yourself.

Another Brother in Christ explains this truth, and it debunks the lies of Lordship salvation doctrine, and how it ignores the clear teaching of the Bible on how a person can be saved.

Differences between Free Grace vs Lordship Salvation

  • Free grace gives a proper definition to repentance as it relates to salvation while Lordship salvation believes that you must repent of your sins to be saved.
  • Free grace differential between salvation and spiritual growth while Lordship salvation does not give more room for believers to grow.
  • Free grace believes that salvation is by grace through alone without works, works do not save you, keep you, and prove that you are saved while Lordship salvation believes that works are the EVIDENCE THAT YOU ARE SAVED
  • Free grace believes in the Bible while Lordship salvation is a man-made teaching.

Conclusion

Therefore, following Jesus Christ is a matter of DISCIPLESHIP and not SALVATION. Eternal life is a free gift (Romans 5:15; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-10).

Our churches are filled with morally upright people who are still hellbound in their sins and unbelief. Satan’s greatest weapon is to con people into living the Christian life without ever being born again. Living a consecrated life is not a part of saving faith.

And also, we are not saved by trying, but by trusting. Eternal life is a free gift, freely received by faith alone in Christ. I am a strong OPPONENT of Lordship SalvationIn fact, I hate the hellish lie of Lordship Salvation.
