There are only seven places in the Bible where the word, “humility” is found in the King James Bible. The word is found in both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and in both places, it has just a little meaning.
Three times the word is found in the Old Testament while it is found four times in the New Testament.
In Hebrew word, here is the meaning of the word humility:
From H6035; condescension, human and subjective (modesty), or divine and objective (clemency): – gentleness, humility, meekness.
In the Greek, here is the meaning of humility
From a compound of G5011 and the base of G5424; humiliation of mind, that is, modesty: – humbleness of mind, humility (of mind), lowliness (of mind).
Humility in the Old Testament
Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
Proverbs 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Proverbs 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
Humility in the New Testament
Acts 20:19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
Colossians 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Colossians 2:23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
God wants believers to show humility because Christ is our example of humility.
