4 Reasons Why Christians Don’t Go Soul Winning
In this article, I want to explain to you why Christians don’t soul-winning after someone told about Christ, but then they ignore sharing their faith with others.
John 20:19-22
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
While Christ was here on earth, his mission was to seek and to save that which was lost, he is always engaging people, and telling the truth about how they can be saved.
Many people believed in him, and many people did not believe in him. And just because people rejected his message did not discourage him from propagating the message to those that would hear the message of the gospel and be saved.
When it comes to soul-winning, Christ has given the church the mandate to engage the world, and preach the Word to those who are lost in sin and going to Hell.
But instead that the church should be actively engaging in soul winning, the church is busy with other things that are not commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Soul-winning should be an active work and the mission of an active local church. It should be her heartbeat every second.
And the church is to make sure that its members are encouraged to go soul winning daily as we have seen recorded in the Book of Acts about the early Christians who are daily in the temple.
Some churches do “outreach” once in a time, and they called it fulfilling the Christ commission, and I called it self commission because if we follow the pattern in the Bible, we will understand that it is not once a month event, but a daily engagement.
Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
It is a crime not to go soul winning, maybe I should reword the last sentence, it is a sin not to go soul winning, and churches that are not actively reaching out to her community is dead church regardless of how big the congregation.
Many churches likewise her members are fat and lazy about what the Lord has commanded them to do, they would rather go into entertaining the saved, than evangelizing the lost.
Many Christians have never witnessed nor testified their faith to others, but we rather let those in our neighborhood slip to Hellfire. I believe that Christians who do not go soul-winning are disappointed to God and disobedient to him.
And I believe that it breaks the heart of God when we blatantly disobeyed and rejected his command.
In our passage, we see our Lord Jesus Christ telling his disciples before his ascension into Heaven, he declared that as the Father hath sent me, therefore, he is sending them to do the work too.
I believe that God the Father willed soul-winning, and he sent the Son to come and show us how it is done, and then we are commissioned to do the same.
Soul-winning is a work of God, and the assignment is given to the church to carry out collectively and individually. Collectively, the church should assemble to declare the good news to the world, and individually, we are to take responsibility for the good news that we have received to others who have not received it.
The Bible makes it clear that the word of reconciliation has been given to believers. Those who have been reconciled should give the word of reconciliation to others.
2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
I propose to you that it is important to go soul-winning and testify about Christ to others. Don’t make excuses why Christians don’t go soul-winning, you can do it?
I have 4 reasons to share with you why Christians don’t go soul-winning.
- They Do Not Believe in the Reality of Hell Fire
There is Hell fire where people are been punished for their sin, and that will be for eternity. The rich man believed in the reality of Hell fire, but it was too late.
He said to Abraham about his brothers, he said he does not want them to come to that place of torment, and flame, and where worm dies not.
Luke 16:17-31
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Do you believe in the reality of Hell enough to persuade you to go soul winning? The rich man realized the torment in the fire, the agony, pain, and the longevity of being in that place, and he did not want his brothers to come to that place of torment.
Folks, if you understand this truth about Hellfire, you will be hunting for souls every day to share the gospel of Christ with them.
The horrors of Hell are so great that you would not want anyone to experience them.
Rev 14:10-11 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
- Your Zeal is not there Anymore
John 9:4
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Many people are passionate for many things except soul winning and the things of God, but in the real sense, we are to more zealous toward the things of God over the things of the world.
The things of life have no eternal value, but the things of the Lord have eternal value, and I believe that we should be zealous over the things that last forever.
And we lose our zeal for soul winning because we don’t think about the eternal rewards that await us, we don’t think about the joy and happiness soul-winning brings, and also we don’t think about the changed lives that come out of soul-winning, and leading a soul to the Savior.
When a believer is zealous about the things of God, he can’t hide it, it is an intense burning desire to do that which pleases the Lord.
When people are passionate about sports, they can anything in the name of their passion, they gamble, bet, fight, kill, and do any crazy things in the name of passion.
The reason why many do not ignite the zeal in their heart is that their love for the Lord is little, because Christ said, if you love me, you will keep my commandments. And if you do the work of God for the wrong reason, you would soon lose your zeal to do it.
Why should you go soul winning? You should go because you love the Lord very much.
- You Lose Real Purpose of Going Soul Winning
The purpose of going soul winning is not to bring people to church, but to win souls to the Lord.
If you are going soul winning to bring people to church, you will soon get tired of going soul winning when people are not responding to your invitation to come to church.
In the story of Ten Lepers that cleansed, Christ told us that only one returned to give glory to God after they were all cleansed. Not everyone will visit your church, not everyone will come back to thank you for giving them the true Gospel, but you should never lose the real purpose for going to soul winning.
If you lose the real purpose of soul winning, you will be going to bring people to church, and not to win them to the Lord.
- You will lose your focus
when you are obessed with bringing people to church, and they don’t show up, you will get tired, and eventually quit.
The last one is this:
4. We are not Praying More for Lost Souls
One of the ways to be more involved in things is to think and invest in those things.
Matthew 9:37-38
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
“Pray ye” is what Christ said, Christ admonished us to pray. Investing our time in prayers for those who are not saved will ignite our hearts to want to see them saved.
Are you praying for souls to be saved every day, and not on Saturday when the church goes out, but we are to pray daily for the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into the harvest field.
Our soul-winning life must be important just as much as our prayer life. If you are doing one, and not doing the other you will not be a balance Christian, and your life will be imbalanced.
Acts 4:31
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Are you praying more to win souls?
There are people at your working place
There are members of your family that you can pray for their salvation.
Conclusion
Early Christians were consumed with zeal for preaching the gospel of Christ. It is the same zeal that we must develop today. We must be determined to see the lost souls saved from Hellfire.
With all these points, you will come to realize why Christians don’t go soul-winning, but these are not good excuses before God.
If the earthly king’s commands are counted an honor, how can the Heavenly command be a sacrifice?
Going soul winning is an honor, and we must be happy fulfilling the command of the King.
Because Christians failed to obey God to go into the world, now the world is coming into the church.
Let me leave you with a final thought: If we don’t go soul winning, we are not good Christians. Good Christians love others by reaching them for Christ.
