Introduction
I have heard many preachers from different churches say that in order to be saved a person MUST repent of their sins.
Eternal Security Verses: 10 Great Verses
Is that true?
Answer: Depending on the context, and the verse, the word, REPENT, can have different meanings.
Those who preach you must repent of your sins usually mean you must turn from sin or be sorry for sin, which is NEVER the case when it comes to salvation.
Jonah 3:10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
To say you must turn from, or be sorry for sin, is to add works to salvation, and make a person do something that God NEVER made as a CONDITION to be saved.
Therefore, the word, repent, in greek, when in reference to any verse dealing with salvation, is the word METANOIA which means CHANGE OF MIND.
And, God wants us to Change Our Minds from what we once thought gave us eternal life, to believe, and trust alone, in his way of getting eternal life, which is ONLY through believing, personally, that Jesus Christ went to the cross, and shed his blood as the complete payment for our sins.
The ABCs Of Salvation:
A. Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
B. Christ PAID your sins in full payment – 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 2:24
C. BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4,
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell & the lake of fire); but the GIFT of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
Conclusion
What Exactly is “THE GOSPEL,” by Which We Are Saved Through Faith?
The word “Gospel” means “Good News” or “Glad Tidings.” There is no need to guess what the “Gospel” is because the Bible plainly tells us.
The “Gospel” is the Good News of Christ’s DEATH on the cross for our sins, His BURIAL, and bodily RESURRECTION three days later:
1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
We are saved by BELIEVING “the Gospel,” which is the power of God unto salvation.
Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”
It is that simple to be saved.
If you admit that you are a needy sinner in God’s sight, and you receive Christ’s sacrifice on the cross as payment for your sins, believing that He was buried and bodily resurrected three days later, YOU ARE IMMEDIATELY, SECURELY, AND FOREVER SAVED!!!
