Why Keep the Path of Righteous?
Proverbs 2:20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
Introduction
There is no way you can understand this verse without reading it in its context. King Solomon was telling his son the necessity of learning from verse 1.
He talks about receiving my words- Learning
He talks about incline thine ear unto wisdom- Learning
He talks about apply thine heart to understanding- Learning
He talks about crying after knowledge- Learning
He talks about seeking her as silver- Learning
He talks about searching for it as hid treasures- Learning
Verse
Proverbs 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
When you understand what is right, you will have the clarity to stand upon the truth and shun foolishness.
A. Warning Concerning Wicked Men
The blessings of learning are for you to be delivered from the wicked men, and those that do not learn are easy prey for the wicked ones.

It is important to note that having the knowledge will protect us from so many things in Life, and that is why Bible is there to equip us with the necessary life-changing truth that will set us free from worldly manipulation.
Proverbs 5 explains how an adulterous woman brings problems to the life of a man.
Verse 20 of Proverbs 2
We are now given the opportunity to make the right choice concerning which path we want to go, and that is why I want to preach on, why you should keep the path of the righteous.
Keep- observe, regard, attend to.
Paths- Road, and Manner.
The Bible is saying to you that you need to attend to the manner of the just, and lawful.
Why?
1. It is the Right Way.
It is sad that many people today do not want to follow the right way, maybe because it is not popular, it is not entertaining, it is fun and sensual way, but the right is always right, and wrong is always wrong. For some people, it is an old-school way, outdated way, and boring way.
And as Christian young people of this generation, we must continue to learn to separate the two. You are in the world, and this world is not getting better with their anti-God, Bible, and church ideologies. We are to be the ones to take our stand for God.
I can’t believe that just some celebrities are promoting sex before marriage, then so many people believe that sex before marriage is right.
NO! NO! NO!
God says it is wrong, and you must listen to the voice of the Lord.
There are so many people that have to ignore the Biblical way because they think it is too strict, it is outdated, and old-fashioned.
The path of the righteous is the Right Way because it is God’s way.
Psalm 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Proverbs 8:20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
Not everyone is ignorant concerning the paths of the righteous, but some foolishly refused to attend to the way of the righteous.
Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
Look here, many of you do not like yourself, when you follow the way of righteousness, you are doing yourself a favor.
2. It is a Safer Way.
When you follow the way of the righteous, there is safety and security in that path.
Consider the ways of the wicked man and the way of the wayward woman.
You will see snare, servitude, and sins.
Proverbs 12:28 In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
Proverbs 11:19 As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
3. It is a Plain Way.
Proverbs 15:19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
Ill- When a man is involved in ungodly things. Decisions making will be difficult for him.
Example- When you are in a relationship with three or four people, and then you are praying for the will of God to be done.
4. It is a Way that Pleases God.
1 Thessalonians 4
When you trusted Christ as your savior, there is a worthy life to live for the Lord. We are encouraged to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord.
Many have a wrong idea about pleasing God, and God has always rebuked such people for their faulty idea about pleasing him.
1Thessalonians 2:15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
What is the picture of this life? Who is required to live this life? What are the blessings of living this life? And many more questions to be asked
1Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
What makes a Life pleasing to God?
First and foremost, a life of faith pleases the Lord more than anything else, and the Bible says it is impossible to please the Lord without faith.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews gives us men and women who pleased God by living out their faith publicly, not just secretly.
But in these verses, we still find some interesting truths about life pleasing to God being explained again to these believers in Christ.
Conclusion:
Let me tell you, you can deceive the pastor, parents, peers, and people around you. But God knows the way you take on a daily basis.
Job 23:10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Psalm 1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
