Introduction

This blog post on the Holy Spirit in the Bible is designed in a way that even a child can understand the subject. So, it is important for us to understand the truth about the third person of the Trinity.

How to be Filled with the Spirit

Therefore, Holy Spirit is not a New Testament concept, but it has been of old. Throughout the Old Testament, we have seen the manifestation of the Spirit of God.

He worked in the lives of men and women that were sold out for God. He uses them to speak the very word of God to the people. And Holy men spake the word of God under the inspiration of God’s Spirit.

2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Different Names for Holy Spirit in the Bible

Holy Spirit is known by different names in the Bible:

  • He is called the Spirit

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

  • He is called the Spirit of Truth

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

  • He is called the Comforter

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

  • He is called the Holy Ghost

Mark 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

  • He is called the Spirit of Christ

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

1 Peter 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

  • He is called the Spirit of the Lord.

Acts 5:9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

All the names mentioned are what the Holy Spirit can be referred to as we have seen in the Bible.

How Does One Receive the Holy Spirit?

It is important that I talk about how someone can receive the Holy Spirit. And in this section, we will dive into how one can receive the Holy Spirit according to the Bible.

And also, Holy Spirit is given when a person trusted Christ. And to put it in a better way, He is given at the moment of salvation.

Ephesians 1:13-14

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Therefore, when you trusted Christ, he gives you the Holy Spirit, and he is your seal until the day of redemption. Believers have nothing to fear, we are saved, sealed, and secured.

The Son of God purchased us.

The Spirit of God possessed us

The Sovereign God Protected us

Let’s example more Bible verses on this important truth:

2 Corinthians 1:22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Conclusion

So, my question to you is this: Do you have the Holy Spirit? Have you trusted Christ alone for salvation? It is important to understand that this is the only way to have the indwelling of God’s Spirit.
