Anointing: 3 Powerful Truths about the Anointing

1 year ago 0 2

Introduction

In this article, I will provide the Biblical teaching on anointing, and what the Bible says about the subject.

Christians must have a Biblical approach toward this subject so that they will not be swerved away by any false teachings on the subject.

Many false teaching on the subject has been perpetuated by false teachers.

And these men have no Biblical understanding of the subject.

If you don’t want to be led astray into falsehood, you must understand this important truth.

What Does it Mean to be Anointed?

1 John 2:27  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Anointed meaning

According to the Bible, every Christian has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, which makes him anointed.

And this anointing helps believers to be all that God wants them to be for Him.

If you are saved, you have it, born again, you possess it.

Bible References on Being Anointed

Acts 4:27  For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

Acts 10:38  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

2 Corinthian 1:21  Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

Hebrews 1:9  Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

1 John 2:27  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Myths about Anointing

Myth number one: Only pastors are anointed by God.

This myth comes as a result of the pattern in the old Testament whereby only the priest and the kings are anointed for a special work.

Christ has made us priests and kings unto God for believers today.

Therefore, you need to understand that anointing was physical for physical ministration.

And the one believers have today is spiritual for spiritual ministration and service.

Myth number two: It is transferable to another person.

Therefore, having the understanding that the anointing is the seal of the Holy Ghost, and that comes by faith in Christ, therefore it is not transferable.

Individual persons must receive this anointing by faith in Christ Jesus alone and not through works.

Myth number three: It can run go away

Since the anointing is the Holy Spirit, it will never go away, believers can grieve the Holy, and quench the Spirit (make him inoperative in his life), but it will abide with you forever.

John 4:16  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

The Purpose of Anointing

The number one purpose of being anointing is to show our security in Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:22  Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Ephesians 1:13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 4:30  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

The King James Bible

Believers are sealed or anointed with the Holy Spirit to prove that we are secure in Christ and that we cannot lose our salvation.

The number two purpose of being anointed is for believers to be useful to the Lord in the work of the ministry.

The usefulness is not automatic, it takes believers’ yielding themselves to the Holy Spirit before the Holy Spirit will work through him.

Tony Evans wrote preached on this subject in his church, and explain what it meant to be anointed.

The number three purpose of being anointed is for believers to know and understand the Scripture.

The Principles of the Christian Life

Holy Spirit will make you understand all things, and that is why it is imperative for God’s people to understand how this anointing works.

1 Corinthians 2:10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Conclusion

Tony Evans said, “You can’t be a Christian and not be anointed. If you are a Christian, you have the anointing.

So, the key is knowing what it is and how to use it so you can benefit from it.”

The Bible teaches that the anointing in the New Testament is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit given to believers to perform the works of God.

And to be the witness of Jesus Christ, and to teach and to be taught by the Spirit.
